Brilliant Earned Choice Award — Full Terms and Conditions


If, in any calendar year of Card Membership, your total eligible purchases on your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card reach or exceed $60,000 (“Purchase Requirement”), you will be eligible to select one of the following benefits as part of the Brilliant Earned Choice Award. The available benefit options include:

  • Five Nightly Upgrade Awards (formerly Suite Night Awards™)
  • Save $1,000 on a bed from a Marriott Bonvoy® retail brand
  • Free Night Award with a redemption value up to 85K points

The list of Brilliant Earned Annual Choice on choice-benefit.marriott.com/brilliant is subject to change at any time.

Eligible purchases to meet the Purchase Requirement include goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do not include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of other cash equivalents. This benefit is only available to the Basic Card Member on the Card Account and only one Brilliant Earned Choice Award may be earned each calendar year per Card Account. Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible toward the Purchase Requirement. To qualify for the Earned Choice Award, your Card account must be open and not in default at the time the Award is earned.

Once you reach the Purchase Requirement for the Brilliant Earned Choice Award, you can select from one of the available benefits by visiting choice-benefit.marriott.com/brilliant. Your selection must be made online through this website and may not be made through Marriott Bonvoy Member Support.

You must select your earned Brilliant Earned Choice Award benefit by February 1 of the year following when you reached the Purchase Requirement. For example, if you reach the Purchase Requirement at any time in 2024, you must select your Brilliant Earned Choice Award benefit by February 1, 2025. In the event that you reach the Purchase Requirement for the Brilliant Earned Choice Award and fail to select a Brilliant Earned Choice Award by 11:59 p.m. EST February 1 of the year following when you reached the Purchase Requirement, you will automatically receive five Nightly Upgrade Awards as your Brilliant Earned Choice Award benefit. A. Nightly Upgrade Awards are one-night confirmable upgrade certificates redeemable for select premium rooms or suites. Please note: it may take up to 8-12 weeks for Nightly Upgrade Awards to be deposited into the Marriott Bonvoy member account after the Card Member selects this benefit. Additionally, Nightly Upgrade Awards are subject to availability and the applicable terms and conditions set forth below.

  • Nightly Upgrade Awards expire on December 31 of the year following the year in which they were earned. For example, if the $60,000 spend threshold is achieved in 2024 and five Nightly Upgrade Awards are selected as the Brilliant Earned Choice Award, the five Nightly Upgrade Awards will have an expiration date of December 31, 2025 regardless of when the selection was made.
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards may be used only on Loyalty Program-eligible paid stays as well as Award Redemption Stays.
  • A Member may request to use their Nightly Upgrade Awards on Marriott websites or by calling Marriott Bonvoy Member Support.
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards may only be used for premium rooms and suites as designated by the Participating Property. Some room types may not be available for use with Nightly Upgrade Awards.
  • Nightly Upgrade Award use is based upon availability of the requested suite or premium room. Checking for availability begins three (3) days before arrival. If availability is not confirmed three (3) days before arrival, availability is checked each day before arrival up to 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to arrival. If at that time Nightly Upgrade Awards cannot be confirmed, the Nightly Upgrade Awards are credited back to the Member’s account if they have not expired.
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards may be used only when there are enough in the Member’s Account so that one (1) is applied to every night of the reservation. One Nightly Upgrade Award is required per room night.
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards are required for each night of the stay including any nights that may be designated "free.”
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards may not be transferred or given as a gift or used as part of a multiple room reservation; however, a Member may use Nightly Upgrade Awards for additional single-room reservations during a stay as long as the Member is present for the stay and the other reservations are under the Member’s name.
  • Members who book separate reservations for consecutive nights that precede or follow a reservation that has confirmed Nightly Upgrade Awards will be required to change rooms to the confirmed room type on any night(s) where a Nightly Upgrade Award is not used.
  • If a Participating Property offers multiple room options for the Nightly Upgrade Award, once the suite or premium room option(s) is (are) selected, the selection may be changed until 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day before arrival so long as the Nightly Upgrade Award remains unconfirmed.
  • Nightly Upgrade Awards have requesting, booking, cancellation, and modification policies that are in addition to – but completely separate from – the booking, cancellation and modification policies for the reservations on which they are used.
    • Requests to use Nightly Upgrade Awards on a reservation may be made up to 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to arrival.
    • Requests to withdraw the use of unconfirmed Nightly Upgrade Awards may be made up to 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to arrival.
    • Confirmed Nightly Upgrade Awards may be canceled up to 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to arrival only if the entire reservation is canceled.
    • Once Nightly Upgrade Awards have been confirmed, the Member must cancel the entire reservation to receive credit back for all Nightly Upgrade Awards. Cancellation of a confirmed Nightly Upgrade Award reservation after 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to arrival will result in the forfeiture of all Nightly Upgrade Awards applied to the entire reservation.
    • Nightly Upgrade Awards cannot be applied to a reservation once the reservation has been checked-in to a Participating Property.
    • If a Member departs his/her reservation early, any unused Nightly Upgrade Awards confirmed for the stay will be forfeited.
    • If a Member wishes to extend their stay and has enough Nightly Upgrade Award(s) to cover the extension, the Member must book a separate reservation for the additional nights and request to use Nightly Upgrade Awards on Marriott Websites or by calling Marriott Bonvoy Member Support; the Nightly Upgrade Award request cannot be processed at the Participating Property. Nightly Upgrade Award use is based on availability of the requested suite or premium room. Checking for availability begins three (3) days before the start of the separate reservation, and up to 2 p.m. local time of the Participating Property one (1) day prior to the start of the separate reservation. Members who book separate reservations for consecutive nights that precede or follow a reservation that has confirmed Nightly Upgrade Awards may be required to change rooms.
  • Not all Participating Properties participate in Nightly Upgrade Awards. Nightly Upgrade Awards are not redeemable at the following brands: Ritz-Carlton Reserve, The Ritz-Carlton Club, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Design Hotels™, all-Suite Hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, All-Inclusive Resorts, Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Sheraton Vacation Club, Westin Vacation Club, and at The Phoenician Residences, a Luxury Collection Residence Club, Scottsdale. In addition, Nightly Upgrade Awards are not redeemable at select Participating Properties.

B. Save $1,000 on a bed from a Marriott Bonvoy retail brand

  • Upon the cardmember’s selection of the $1,000 discount on a bed from a Marriott Bonvoy retail brand as their Brilliant Earned Choice Award they will receive a promotional code that can be redeemed for $1,000 off the full retail value valid on any of the below Marriott retail brands’ mattresses and box springs. It may take up to 8-12 weeks to receive the promotional code after the Card Member selects this benefit.
  • The $1,000 discount promotional code is nonrefundable and nontransferable.
  • The promotional code cannot be duplicated or sold and there is no cash value. In the event the Loyalty Program suspects the use or redemption of the promotional code was in error, fraudulent, illegal or in violation of these $1,000 discount terms and conditions or the Program Rules, the Loyalty Program reserves the right to withhold or deduct the promotional code or corresponding credit. The promotional code may be terminated or modified at any time and without any liability to the Loyalty Program. The promotional code will be used for its intended and lawful purpose and pursuant to the Program Rules. The promotional code is void where prohibited by law. The promotional code is for a single purchase only.
  • The $1,000 discount promotional code is not combinable with other offers. The $1,000 discount promotional code is for a single use and is non-transferable. Only the eligible Card Member who selected to receive the $1,000 discount on a bed from a Marriott Bonvoy retail brand as their Brilliant Earned Choice Award will be able to redeem the promotional code.
  • To redeem the $1,000 discount promotional code from any of the Marriott retail brands listed above, call one of the numbers below, based on your country of residence. Have the promotional code and the eligible Card Member’s Marriott Bonvoy Member Account Number ready.

  • Prior to shipping the applicable merchandise, the Company reserves the right to verify that the person who redeems the $1,000 discount promotional code is the Member who earned the Brilliant Earned Choice Award.
  • Shipping is not included and varies by region. Bed frames are not included and are not subject to the $1,000 discount promotional code.
  • The $1,000 discount promotional code is valid through December 31 of the year following the year in which the Brilliant Earned Choice Award was earned. For example, if the $60,000 spend threshold is achieved in 2024 and the $1,000 discount on a bed from a Marriott Bonvoy retail brand is selected as the Brilliant Earned Choice Award, the $1,000 discount promotional code will have an expiration date of December 31, 2025.

C. Free Night Award

The Free Night Award can be redeemed for a one-night stay in a standard guest room inclusive of room rate and applicable taxes at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels with a redemption level at or under 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. The Card Member may be responsible for payment of additional mandatory resort fees at properties where resort fees are applicable and is responsible for all incidental charges. It may take up to 8-12 weeks for the Free Night Award to be deposited into the Marriott Bonvoy member account after the Card Member selects this benefit.

To redeem the Free Night Award, you must log into your Marriott Bonvoy Member Account and apply the Free Night Award during booking. The Free Night Award will expire one (1) year from issuance. Your Free Night Award may not be combined with cash or other Award Redemption types when redeeming for your free night, but you are able to redeem or purchase up to 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to expand the value of your Free Night Award in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Terms and Conditions located at marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi. Your Free Night Award may not be transferred, extended beyond the expiration date, or re-credited for points. Free Night Award redemption is subject to availability. Participating hotels may limit the number of standard rooms available for redemption on a limited number of days.
